Why Cellulite is an invented “disease” that is part of a billion dollar industry
Did you know that the word “cellulite” didn’t really appear anywhere until pretty recently?
In fact, the word “cellulite” and it’s description made its first appearance in North America when Vogue printed an article about it in the 1960s…
Before that, cellulite wasn’t really a global term to describe our skin.
These bumps on our skin are a very natural part of our body tissue.
Not a “disease” that needs to be cured.
Cellulite treatment is very recent and became a thing in the 1970s
It’s also interesting to note that cellulite “treatment” really started booming in the 1970s, after a beauty salon owner in Manhattan published a book about this “disease”.
[Side note: I personally haven’t heard of a “disease” that 98% of women supposedly “suffer from”, especially a “disease” that is not linked to any major health risks.]
For centuries, we were all totally cool with having bumps on our skin. Then, all of a sudden, we were taught that it’s a “disease” that needs “curing”. Sounds pretty suspicious to me… Needless to say, this beauty salon owner got herself a pretty sweet pay-check by offering treatment options for this “disease” in her salon.

Dissecting the Vogue article that started it all
Why the bumps on our skin are a natural part of our body
Next time you start getting insecure about your skin or feel tempted to invest in “treatment”, please remember my words:
Cellulite is an invented “disease” that brings in millions if not billions of dollars every year.
When you have a bad body image day, ask yourself: Who is profiting off my insecurities right now?
It’s a powerful question to keep in mind, because we are taught to feel a certain way about our bodies. Don’t let the diet industry steal joy and happiness from your life. You deserve to live a life free of food- and body obsession.
Conclusion: Cellulite is not a disease. It’s part of our body and we are allowed to embrace it and love it and be totally cool with it.
